One of the most actual problems of modern society in all countries of the world is the increase in the incidence of obesity and metabolic syndrome, which is also a key factor in the development of concomitant diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, some types of cancer, various types of musculoskeletal disorders, violation of the mental and emotional aspects of health, which in combination significantly reduce work capacity, quality and length of life and increase costs in the field of health care for the treatment of patients with this pathology.
From the point of view of evidence-based medicine and according to all modern treatment protocols, bariatric (metabolic) surgery is the most effective method of treating obesity and related metabolic diseases.
For many years, this surgical direction has been one of the priorities at the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine (head of the Departmentof Surgery and Vascular Surgery is professor Savoliuk S.). Employees of the department are practicing surgeons and are full members of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) and the Ukrainian Association of Bariatric Surgery (UABS).
Students of different cycles of thematic improvement in 2024 can study this direction of surgery: «Application of biowelding and other energies in surgery», «Innovative technologies in elective and urgent surgery», «Laparoscopic operations in elective surgery», «Bariatric surgery and postoperative management of metabolic patients».
This vector, bariatric (metabolic) operations, is one of the main scientific and practical directions of the work of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery, and always is one of the most interesting cycles for students.
