The 62nd Congress of the European Renal Association (ERA) took place in Vienna from June 4 to 7, 2025. It is one of the most respected international scientific events in the field of kidney diseases. More than 10,000 physicians, scientists, and researchers from various countries participated in this year's event. The scientific program was comprehensive, covering the full spectrum of modern nephrology — from basic research to clinical practice, from innovations in dialysis to advances in transplantation.
The Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine proudly represented Ukraine at this high-level international forum.
Three scientific abstracts prepared by members of the department were accepted for presentation, addressing pressing issues in current nephrology — including chronic kidney disease, dialysis-related complications, and comorbidities.
Of particular note, the abstract titled "Therapeutic Approach to the Management of Intradialytic Complications: From Combating Hypoxemia to Improving Hemodialysis Tolerance" ( authors S. Kushnirenko, L. Savytska, O. Lysianska)
was selected for the prestigious Free Communications section — the highest format of oral presentations at the Congress.
Moreover, out of more than 2,300 accepted abstracts, this work was included in the top 100 best abstracts by young authors and was awarded an official ERA Certificate of Distinction.
Two additional abstracts from the department were presented in the following formats:
- Moderated e-Poster:
"Evaluation of the Effect of Hemodialysis on Serum Uric Acid Levels and the Association with Cardiovascular Diseases in Patients with CKD" (authors Kushnirenko, L. Savytska, Y. Kalantarienko, O. Lysianska) - e-Poster:
"Hemodialysis in Focus: Patient Survival Through the Lens of Time and Hazard Factors" (authors Kushnirenko, O. Lysianska, L. Savytska,)
The department was represented on-site by Professor Stella Kushnirenko, D.Sc, Head of the Department and Liubov Savytska, PhD, Assistant Professor.
Participation in scientific discussions, presentation of original research, and networking with leading European experts underscored not only the department’s high academic potential but also the relevance and recognition of the Ukrainian nephrology school in the international scientific community.
The department continues the legacy initiated by Academician Liubomyr Antonovych Pyrih, founder of Ukrainian nephrology, nurturing a new generation of physicians who combine deep knowledge, clinical thinking, and global scientific vision.
