H. B. Bykhovskyi (1861-1936)
The Department of Surgery and Proctology (the former name – the Department of Surgery) was organized in 1922 as the first Department of Surgery of Kyiv Institute of Advanced Medical Studies. The organizer and head of the department was Full Professor H. B. Bykhovskyi (1922-1936).

In 1937-1944 the department was headed by Associate Professor M. I.Kolomiichenko.
B. Ye. Pankrat’iev (1898 -1952)
In 1944-1952 the department was headed by Full Professor B. Ye. Pankrat’iev.

Since 2010 the Department of Surgery and Proctology has been headed by Full Professor Ya. P. Feleshtynskyi, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, President of the Ukrainian Association of Hernia Surgery. Organizer of the first Hernia Surgery Centre in Ukraine (Kyiv) and the Ukrainian Association of Hernia Surgery.
