The department was founded in 1979 at Kyiv Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians.

In 1980 MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor Ye. V. Kokhanevych headed the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No 3. Full Professor Ye. V. Kokhanevych, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, Honoured Inventor of the USSR, author of 292 scientific papers, 11 inventions, 25 rationalization proposals, greatly contributed to the formation of the department and its scientific potential. Under her guidance there were defended 27 PhD and 2 doctoral theses.

In 2002 the department was renamed the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductology of KMAPE named after P. L. Shupyk. The further progressive changes in the development of the department were made in 2005, when MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor V. V. Kaminsky was appointed the head of the department.

Full Professor V. V. Kaminsky has worked as the Chief Freelance Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine since 2005, and  since 2006 he has been the Chief Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of the Main Health Department of Kyiv State Administration.
Full Professor V. V. Kaminsky is a member of Shupyk NHU of Ukraine Specialised Scientific Council for Defence of PhD and Doctorate Theses in "Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Anaesthesiology", member of the Presidium of the Ukrainian Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, adviser of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, coordinator of the projects " Prevention of Perinatal HIV Transmission". He has been awarded Honourable Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for his great contribution to the development of medical education and science, and the long service. He is the author of about 200 scientific papers. Under his guidance there has been implemented such innovatory line as studying the factors of infertility and perinatal complications in patients with reproductive dysfunction for the purpose of optimizing the standards for the diagnosis and treatment of the mentioned pathologies.
