University representatives took part in the voting and the formation of the new Board, as well as in the approval of the Association’s Charter. An important component of the event was its scientific and practical programme, dedicated to the key directions in the development of modern oncology in Ukraine and worldwide. The main objective of the professional discussions was to present and promote effective solutions aimed at improving cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of malignant neoplasms.

Professor Prokip Gordiichuk served as moderator of the “Colorectal Surgery” session and also participated as a discussant in the multidisciplinary panel discussion entitled “MDT: From Simple to Complex – Specifics of MRI Staging of Rectal Cancer and Assessment of Response to Neoadjuvant Therapy.”

Mykola Gordiichuk, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Department, delivered a presentation entitled “Prospects for Sphincter-Preserving Surgical Procedures in the Treatment of Distal Rectal Cancer.” The research was based on clinical data from the Department of Oncology, comprising 880 surgical procedures performed between 2015 and 2025 in patients with lower and middle rectal cancer.

The speaker analysed the key factors influencing the selection of organ-preserving treatment approaches, immediate and long-term oncological outcomes, and demonstrated the dynamics of bowel function recovery, providing a clinical rationale for the feasibility of each surgical technique.

Congress participants highly appreciated the scope and depth of the clinical data presented, highlighting the speaker’s high scientific and practical standards and wishing the Department’s team continued success in its work.
