On April 26, 2022, a one-day professional seminar on "Intensive care of traumatic hypovolemic shock in children" was held. The seminar was organized by the Department of Paediatric Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine. About 20 participants took part in the seminar. The topics of the seminar covered issues related to blood loss due to trauma, polytrauma and injuries.

The seminar consisted of three parts. During the first part, the definitions of shock was determined and the features of shock in case of large blood loss were discussed, in particular, the features of shock in children. The second part was devoted to the general algorithm for assessing and primary care of injured patients at the hospital, on the example of the standardized system ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support). The place of stop bleeding and anti-shock measures in such an algorithm were outlined. In the third, main part, modern concepts for the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic hypovolemic shock in children were considered, based on both classical approaches and modern recommendations from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine.

During the seminar, listeners asked many questions, most of which focused on the differences between approaches in the treatment of shock in children and in adults. The use of various infusion fluids, including blood products, as well as vasopressors and sympathomimetics, provoked a lively discussion.

At the end of the seminar, participants noted the usefulness and informativeness of the knowledge gained and they wished to continue to attend one-day professional seminars at the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine.
