The 1st Consensus Meeting on GERD and Bariatric surgery was held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montpellier on June 28-29, 2019. During two days, the best world-renowed experts (60 bariatry opinion-leaders from 30 countries) discussed the issues of metabolic surgery and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The only representatives from Ukraine on the above event were the Chief of Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of Shupyk NMAPE, Professor S. Savoliuk and a surgeon, a PhD student D. Zavertylenko whose scientific work topic is closely related to that of the conference mentioned.

On day 1, the leading experts reported the results of minimally invasive and endoscopic interventions, discussed on tactics and surgery selection, treatment and prevention of complications in patients with morbid obesity and reflux esophagitis, Barret's esophagus, hiatal hernias.

On day 2, June 29, sixty experts from 30 countries took the consensus statements on gastroesophageal reflux disease and bariatric/metabolic surgery.
