As part of the scientific programme of the First Congress of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), which took place in May, Professor Maryna Dolzhenko presented the results of an international study investigating gender-specific aspects of adherence to treatment among patients with cardiovascular diseases. The study was conducted through a collaboration between researchers from the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University, and Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University.

The co-authors of the study were Nataliia Bilousova, DSc student of the Department of Cardiology and clinical pharmacist; Liudmyla Yakovenko, Assistant Professor of the Department of Cardiology at the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine; Tamara Makhanova, expert of the Health Technology Assessment Economic Evaluation Department of the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and Assistant Professor of the Department of Management and Economics of Pharmacy at Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University; Andriy Bazylevych, MD, PhD, Professor of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine No. 1 at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University; and Nataliia Tkachenko, MD, PhD, Professor and Head of the Department of Management and Economics of Pharmacy at Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University.

The study addressed one of the most important challenges in contemporary cardiology – patient adherence to treatment. The findings demonstrated significant gender differences in compliance with medical recommendations and highlighted the need for personalized communication strategies to improve the effectiveness of cardiovascular disease management.

For the Department of Cardiology, participation in the Congress represented an important step toward strengthening international scientific cooperation and expanding opportunities for academic collaboration.
