On 30 January 2026, a specialist seminar was held at the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy to review the scientific novelty as well as the theoretical and practical significance of the doctoral dissertation by Oksana Lysianska, Assistant Professor of the Department. The dissertation, entitled “Cardiorespiratory insufficiency in patients with stage V chronic kidney disease and its correction,” was submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD equivalent) in the specialty 14.01.02 – Internal Medicine.

The seminar was attended by academic staff from the Departments of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy, as well as the Department of Therapy, Family Medicine, Hematology and Transfusiology of the university, together with representatives of the National Military Medical Clinical Center “Main Military Clinical Hospital”.

During the seminar, Oksana Lysianska presented the results of a comprehensive clinical study focusing on intradialytic disturbances of oxygenation and hemodynamics in patients with stage V chronic kidney disease receiving maintenance hemodialysis. Her presentation highlighted the impact of these disturbances on quality of life, their prognostic significance in relation to mortality risk, and potential therapeutic approaches, including the use of low-flow oxygen therapy during hemodialysis sessions.

The scientific discussion addressed current diagnostic criteria for intradialytic hypoxemia and intradialytic arterial hypertension, their relationship with blood pressure variability, hemodialysis tolerance, and patients’ quality of life. Reviewers and participants emphasized the relevance of the topic, the high methodological quality of the research, the robustness of the evidence base, and the practical importance of the findings for clinical nephrology.

An important milestone in the international validation of the study was the presentation of its results at the 62nd ERA Congress, where the work was selected among the Top 100 projects by young investigators and received a corresponding award. This recognition confirms the high scientific standard, relevance, and international impact of the research.

Based on the outcomes of the seminar, the dissertation by Oksana Lysianska was recommended for further consideration and official defense before a specialized academic council.
