In September 2025, the team of the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy, under the editorship of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Stella Kushnirenko, prepared and published the educational-methodical manual "SMART Diagnostics and Treatment of Kidney and Urinary Tract Diseases."

The manual was developed in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine and modern international clinical guidelines, including KDIGO and the European Association of Urology (EAU). It covers issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of kidney and urinary tract diseases and is intended for a wide medical audience: nephrologists, urologists, general practitioners, family doctors, transplant specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
This interdisciplinary approach allows the manual to be applied in daily clinical practice by specialists of various profiles.

The manual presents 23 practical skills, covering a wide range of topics in nephrological and urological care — from the initial patient examination to the management of complex clinical cases, including patients with chronic kidney disease, nephrolithiasis, urinary tract infections, and post-transplant conditions.

Each practical skill includes step-by-step algorithms, tables, and diagrams, making the manual a universal tool for both training junior doctors and updating the knowledge of experienced clinicians.

The main concept of the manual is based on the SMART approach (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound), which contributes to the formation of standardized clinical thinking, the reduction of diagnostic errors, and the optimization of therapeutic strategies.

"SMART Diagnostics and Treatment of Kidney and Urinary Tract Diseases" is not just an educational manual — it is a practical guide for the physician who aims to make well-founded clinical decisions based on global evidence and standards.
