"The English Advanced Course for Medical Professionals'' conducted by the Department of Language Training and Humanities at Shupyk National University of Health Care of Ukraine, from January 10 to April 23, 2025, has been successfully completed.

The objective of the course was to enhance the communicative competence of medical professionals in English to the level required for delivering lectures, conducting seminars in a foreign language for international colleagues, participating in conferences and forums, and equipping students with the practical skills necessary for consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between English and Ukrainian..

Highly qualified teachers from the Department of Language Training and Humanities delivered the educational process, including the Head of the Department, L. Shevchenko and many other skilled professionals. Among them is the Assistant of the department Liudmyla Saienko, who applies modern language teaching methodologies and tools, means of presentation, practical application of vocabulary and grammar, supported by good knowledge of language realities and her many years of teaching experience.

The curriculum, developed by Liudmyla Saienko, included interaction with native English speakers from the UK, fostering a fully English-speaking environment in the classroom. The course emphasized real-world communication across diverse topics such as career, travel, music, cinema, science, and various aspects of human life—both external and internal.

In addition to cross-cultural exchange, it focused on expanding medical vocabulary and understanding specialized terminology. Listeners worked with original scientific texts, integrating both medical and grammatical content relevant to various specialties. This approach allowed participants to build a broader vocabulary and gain a deeper understanding of language within professional contexts. Such deep immersion ensures that they are well-prepared to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.

English lessons, here are not merely about grammar and vocabulary; they are a deep dive into the intricacies of medical terminology, well-being, nutrition, and even philosophical topics like the nature of happiness.

In today's world, where stress, anxiety, fear, depression, and a sense of hopelessness are widespread, the topic of happiness sparked a lively discussion among listeners. This dialogue culminated in the creation of participants’ own collective definition of the concept of 'happiness.'

This practical engagement helps learners retain knowledge and boosts their confidence in using the language. The English courses at the Department of Language Training and Humanities stand as a testament to the value of holistic education. This approach ensures that we become not only competent practitioners but also compassionate and thoughtful individuals.
