Damage to the nervous system, diabetic neuropathy, is the most common complication of diabetes mellitus, occurring in more than half of patients suffering from this disease. However, many issues of diagnosis and treatment of this complication of diabetes are highly controversial. At the end of November, a 2-day virtual workshop was held with the participation of 10 leading international experts in the field of diabetic neuropathy, such as Professors Andrew Bolton (UK), Dan Ziegler (Germany), Roy Freeman (United States of America) and others.

The head of Department of Diabetology of the Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine , Professor B.N. Mankovsky was also included in these expert group.

For 2 full days, experts discussed approaches to diagnostics and peripheral somatic neuropathy, proposed a step-by-step algorithm for prescribing pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy drugs, which could be effectively applied in real clinical practice. All recommendations were accepted only on condition of their support by the consensus opinion of experts. The document developed as a result of this meeting, will be sent for publication to one of the world's leading edition in the field of diabetology.
