With great pride and respect, the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine is announcing the receipt of the 2021 Scientist Award by the Head of the Department, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Sergiy Rykov

Well-known in Ukraine specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of refractive errors and disorders of binocular vision in children, minimally invasive ophthalmic surgery, diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases of the visual organ, oncoophthalmology, highly specialized ophthalmic care, Professor Sergiy Rykov is the author of 26 patents and 15 innovations, which offer new approaches to solving scientific problems, which is of great theoretical and practical importance for ophthalmology.

Professor Sergiy Rykov is the head of Scientific School of the Mykola Markovych Sergiyenko. Under his leadership, 3 doctoral dissertations, 20 candidate dissertations and 3 doctors of philosophy were defended. The department headed by him is a mainstay in Ukraine in two specialties "Ophthalmology" and "Pediatric Ophthalmology" in the training of young ophthalmologists, pediatric ophthalmologists and young professionals. Every year, under the leadership of Professor Sergiy Rykov, the three largest scientific and practical forums in Ukraine with international participation are held: "Ophthalmological Spring", "You must see your childhood" and "Refractive plenary", which are attended by about 95% of all Ukrainian ophthalmologists. Professor Sergiy Rykov organized the educational portal "The Art of Seeing Life", which unites about 3,000 doctors from Ukraine and abroad on social networks.

Professor Sergiy Rykov continues his active creative work, focusing on creating a method of surgical combined treatment for complicated cataracts. Fluent in English, he regularly speaks at world congresses, lectures. Only in 2021 he published 4 articles in European journals, known for strict review.

Professor Sergiy Rykov is the author of more than 760 scientific works, including 5 textbooks, 8 reference books, 3 encyclopedias, 19 monographs, 15 manuals, 30 educational and methodical recommendations on modern ophthalmology.

This man combined love of work with respect for people, warm heart and bright mind, rich knowledge and ability to work, for which he is grateful to colleagues, students, listeners, patients. In his years he has not only a rich path, but wide and bright roads to the future with clear thoughts and goals.
