In June 2026, the 63rd Congress of the European Renal Association (ERA) took place in Glasgow, Scotland — one of the leading international scientific and clinical events in nephrology, annually bringing together experts from around the world to discuss the latest advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of kidney diseases.
Representing the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy were Stella Kushnirenko, MD, DSc, Professor, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Head of the Department, and Liubov Savytska, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of the Department.
As part of the Congress scientific programme, representatives of the Department presented the results of their research in the format of two Focused Oral Presentations and one e-Poster.
The following study was presented in the e-Poster format:
“Stage-Specific Dynamics of Respiratory and Hemodynamic Adaptation in Patients Receiving Maintenance Hemodialysis”, focusing on stage-specific features of respiratory and hemodynamic adaptation in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.
Two studies were presented in the Focused Oral Presentation format:
“Amino Acid Metabolism Disorders in Patients Receiving Maintenance Hemodialysis: An Index-Based Approach to Nutritional and Metabolic Assessment”, highlighting disturbances in amino acid metabolism among patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis and proposing an index-based approach to nutritional and metabolic assessment;
“Loss of Homeostatic Stability as a Mechanism of Chronic Kidney Disease Progression: A Retrospective Study”, introducing a novel perspective on chronic kidney disease progression through the concept of loss of homeostatic stability.
The presented studies addressed key areas of contemporary nephrology, including adaptive respiratory and cardiovascular changes in maintenance hemodialysis patients, amino acid metabolism disorders as an important component of nutritional and metabolic assessment, and innovative approaches to understanding the mechanisms underlying chronic kidney disease progression.
Participation in the Congress provided an opportunity to gain insights into the latest international clinical research findings, updated guidelines, and emerging approaches in chronic kidney disease management, dialysis therapy, cardiorenal medicine, metabolic disorders, and personalized patient care.
The presentation of the Department’s research findings at an international level reflects the active integration of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine into the global academic community and highlights the relevance and high scientific quality of research conducted by the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy.
