On June 9, 2026, at the meeting of the Specialized Academic Council D 44.601.02 held at the Poltava State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Oksana Lysianska, Assistant Professor of the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy, successfully defended her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD equivalent) in the specialty 14.01.02 – Internal Medicine. The title of the dissertation research was: “Cardiorespiratory Failure in Patients with Stage VD Chronic Kidney Disease and Its Correction.”
The research was conducted under the supervision of Stella Kushnirenko, MD, DSc, Professor, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy.
The dissertation focused on investigating the interrelationship between kidney injury and cardiovascular and respiratory system status in patients with stage VD chronic kidney disease receiving maintenance hemodialysis, corresponding to the contemporary concept of the cardio-pulmonary-renal syndrome. The study included a comprehensive assessment of cardiorespiratory disorders in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis, with particular emphasis on intradialytic hypoxemia and intradialytic arterial hypertension.
An important component of the research was the substantiation of approaches to correcting cardiorespiratory disorders in patients with stage VD CKD, including the use of non-invasive monitoring of oxygen saturation and blood pressure during hemodialysis, as well as oxygen therapy in patients with intradialytic hypoxemia.
The relevance and scientific significance of the study were further confirmed by the presentation of its findings to the international professional community at the 62nd and 63rd Congresses of the European Renal Association (ERA), where the results were presented within the scientific programme and received professional discussion among international experts.
The staff of the Department of Nephrology and Renal Replacement Therapy sincerely congratulates Oksana Lysianska on this significant scientific achievement and wishes her continued professional success, inspiration, new academic accomplishments, successful implementation of promising research projects, and further growth in scientific, educational, and clinical activities.
