On February 10, 2023, the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, an on-site professional seminar was held for the Society of Ophthalmologists of Kropyvnytskyi "Current Issues in Ophthalmology", which was attended by 57 ophthalmologists of the city and region.

For the safety of lecturers and participants, the event took place in the bomb shelter of the educational institution.

The introduction and holding of the specialist seminar was dictated by the needs of today within the framework of the implementation of the global program to combat blindness "Sight 2030: The Right to Sight" and the conditions of Ukraine's integration into the European space, and in addition, numerous appeals from ophthalmologists and children's ophthalmologists in Kropyvnytskyi and the region.

The program of the seminar includes the lecture "Closed eyes see best. Clinical routes of patients before cataract and refractive surgery" was presented by Serhiy Rykov, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, head of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine. Serhiy Oleksandrovych detailed the main diagnostic examinations that, according to the latest clinical protocols, must be performed on patients before cataract and refractive surgery in order to ensure high visual functions and return patients to a full life.

According to the WHO, today cataract is the leading eye disease and leads to reversible blindness. As patients' demands for the results of cataract surgery are constantly increasing, visual needs are changing and expanding, the ophthalmologist must constantly improve his knowledge to improve the quality of life of his patients.

Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, professor Iryna Shargorodska shared her practical experience and knowledge with Kropyvnytskyi's ophthalmologist colleagues in the lecture "My sight signed the paper with my heart. Basics of differential diagnosis in uveal glaucoma". Iryna Vasylivna widely covered the main modern approaches to the differential diagnosis of uveal glaucoma, the use of additional instrumental diagnostic methods, in particular optical coherence tomography of the optic nerves and computer perimetry. Since the result of treatment and the subsequent prognosis of the patient's visual functions depend on timely and correct diagnosis, many participants of the conference asked clarifying questions about the clinical cases presented by the lecturer.

It is worth noting that the lively interest of most of the participants of the seminar was manifested by constant discussions and questions to the lecturers. Continuous professional development of ophthalmologists, live communication and exchange of experience with colleagues are especially valuable in today's difficult times.
