The department was founded in August, 1959. The first head of the department was Full Professor Horodetska Ye. H. (1959 – 1973). Her disciples were Full Professors Sidel’nikov V. M. and Hudzenko P. M. Then the department was headed by Full Professor Terebenchuk H. M. (1974 - 1990). Since 1990 by now MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor Berezhnyi V. V.has been the head of the department. Since the foundation of the department the staff members have focused on the issues relevant to paediatrics, i. e. paediatric cardiac rheumatology, gastroenterology, infant diseases. The heads of the department actively participated and participate in the work, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, medical associations and public organizations.
