The main direction of the scientific work of the Department of Cardiology is the development of new diagnostic and treatment technologies for improving the survival of patients with coronary artery disease, as a widespread cardiovascular diseases.

The aim of scientific research is to increase the effectiveness of early diagnosis and treatment of patients with coronary artery disease as a common disease of the circulatory system by studying the risk factors for the onset and progression of disorders of the lungs and its recovery after surgical treatment (stenting coronary arteries and operations of coronary artery bypass grafting), the study of the influence of myocardial function disorders LV on the clinical course of the disease, development of diagnostic and prognostic criteria for myocardial dysfunction with the help of new  technologies; substantiation and development of individual, group, regional and sectoral prevention programs, methods of early diagnosis and preventive therapy; development of clinical protocols and guidelines; genetic studies are aimed at determining the influence of genetic polymorphisms on the course for the disease in patients with coronary artery disease, high cardiovascular risk.

The department conducts research on the theme "Prevention of death in patients with high cardiovascular risk by modifying the measures of primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases", the term of implementation - 2016-2021.

The Department of Cardiology is the initiator and organizer of the EVROASPIRE IV, V. The staff of the department are participants in international studies Themis, Canvas, Canvas-R, Victory, RIVAROX.
