On August 25-27, 2019 in Krakow (Poland), a specialized scientific forum of the International Union of Phlebology, bringing together experts from all around the world engaged in minimally invasive surgery for varicose veins of the lower extremities and its complications (surgeons , vascular surgeons and phlebologists).

Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education at this European surgical event was represented by employees of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery (head of the department - S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor)) - V. Khodos (MD, Dr.Sc., Associate professor) and V. Gorbovets (MD, PhD), who are curators of programmatic cycles of thematic improvement "Modern Minimally Invasive Methods in Phlebology" and "Fundamentals and Innovations of Vascular Surgery".

The program of the 3-day practical-oriented forum consisted of theoretical (development of recommendations, protocols, classifications) and practical part (workshops, master-classes), exhibitions of modern phlebological equipment and instruments, covering the whole spectrum of modern, minimally invasive vein surgery, namely - the use of endovenous and transdermal laser coagulation technology, micro- and mini-phlebectomies, modern sclerotherapy and compression therapy to achieve high aesthetic results after surgery.

A landmark event for the staff of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education was the including of departmental reports in the program of the plenary session. "Endovenous Electric Impact in the Treatment of Chronic Venous Pathology" (S.Savoliuk, V. Khodos, V. Gorbovets, R. Gerashenco) summarized experience of the clinic in the application of endovenous biowelding technology in minimally invasive surgery for varicose veins of the lower extremities and its complications, including in patients with concomitant severe diabetes mellitus.

The presented results state that the implementation of domestic bio-welding technology in the program of surgical treatment of varicose vein disease is not inferior in efficiency, reliability and safety with the existing modern low-traumatic endothelial techniques (EVLK, RFA), which caused a great deal of interest among the abroad surgeons and scientists.

The gained knowledge, experience and current protocol recommendations will be taken into account when writing new training programs for students, interns and in preparation for printing a monograph on the basics of modern minimally invasive phlebology, the work of which is completed by the staff of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery under the general direction of  the head of the department - S. Savoliuk (MD, Dr.Sc., Full Professor).
