Representatives of the Department of Cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraineparticipated in the European Society of Cardiology Congress (ESC Congress 2026), held on 28–31 August 2026 in Munich, Germany.
The Department of Cardiology was represented at one of the world’s largest cardiovascular congresses by Professor Maryna Dolzhenko, MD, DSc, Head of the Department of Cardiology; Professor Maksym Sokolov, MD, DSc; and Nataliia Bilousova, doctoral researcher at the Department of Cardiology.
One of the important highlights of the Congress was the presentation of results from EUROASPIRE VI, a large-scale international programme of the European Society of Cardiology aimed at assessing real-world clinical practice in cardiovascular prevention.
Despite the extremely challenging circumstances, Ukraine was one of the 27 countries represented in EUROASPIRE VI, with a Ukrainian patient cohort included in the international analysis. Ukraine’s participation in this major European project provides an opportunity to assess the current state of secondary cardiovascular prevention in our country and to compare clinical practice in Ukraine with that of other European countries.
Professor Maryna Dolzhenko, who represents Ukraine in the EUROASPIRE project and serves as the national coordinator of the study in Ukraine, took part in the Congress scientific session dedicated to the results of the programme. This year, EUROASPIRE marks three decades of research into real-world clinical practice in cardiovascular prevention.
Another representative of the Department of Cardiology contributing to the scientific programme was Nataliia Bilousova, doctoral researcher at the Department of Cardiology, who presented the report “Value-based cardiovascular care in Ukraine: transitioning from generic monotherapy to branded fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) and pharmaceutical support” during the session Emerging Perspectives in Cardiovascular Care: Prevention, Policy, and Practice.
Her presentation addressed issues of particular relevance to Ukraine, including value-based cardiovascular care, rational pharmacotherapy, the use of fixed-dose combination therapies, and pharmaceutical support for patients.
ESC Congress 2026 once again served as a major international platform for presenting the results of leading clinical studies, innovative technologies, and emerging approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
This year, particular attention was given to cardiovascular prevention and cardiac rehabilitation, contemporary models of cardiovascular care delivery, digital technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence in cardiology.
Another major component of ESC Congress 2026 was the presentation of new ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines and the results of landmark studies with the potential to influence and reshape everyday clinical practice.
