The Department of Emergency Medicine of Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine took an active part in the XVIII British-Ukrainian Symposium on Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine “The Latest Global Standards and Guidelines in Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine. BUS-18”, which was held in Kyiv on May 7–9, 2026.
Within the framework of the scientific and practical forum, Associate Professor Olga Kramareva and Associate Professor Alina Boiko presented a series of master classes dedicated to modern approaches to the management of critically ill patients and prevention of complications in intensive care practice.
Particular attention from participants was drawn to the workshop “Emergency Ultrasound Protocols — A Survival Tool for the Unstable Patient”, during which modern applications of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in rapid diagnosis of emergency conditions, hemodynamic assessment, and clinical decision-making in critical situations were demonstrated.
Another workshop of significant practical interest was “Strategy and Tactics for Prevention of Infectious Complications During Prolonged Invasive Ventilation”, which highlighted current international recommendations on prevention of ventilator-associated infections, optimization of respiratory support, and improvement of patient safety in intensive care units.
The participation of the department’s faculty members in the symposium became an important platform for professional exchange of experience, implementation of modern international standards, and development of interdisciplinary cooperation in the fields of anesthesiology, intensive care, and emergency medicine.
