The Department of Emergency Medicine of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine continues its systematic efforts to enhance the professional competencies of physicians across regions by integrating modern educational approaches into everyday clinical practice.
A two-day workshop titled “Psychological First Aid and Crisis Communication in Medical Practice” was recently held in the city of Horodenka. The event was conducted by the Head of the Department, Professor Anton O. Volosovets, and brought together physicians from primary and specialized healthcare institutions of the Horodenka territorial community.
The program was designed in response to current challenges faced by healthcare professionals, particularly the increased psycho-emotional burden and the need to manage patients in crisis conditions. Participants reviewed contemporary concepts of stress mechanisms, features of anxiety and post-stress reactions, and the physician’s role in early identification and management of these conditions.
Special emphasis was placed on practical training, including:
— rapid self-regulation and emotional stabilization techniques;
— effective models of crisis communication;
— development of empathic interaction skills with patients and their families;
— prevention of professional burnout and strengthening of physicians’ psychological resilience.
The workshop was delivered in an interactive format, incorporating clinical case discussions and role-playing scenarios, enabling participants to integrate newly acquired knowledge into their clinical practice and refine communication skills in complex situations.
Such educational initiatives contribute to shaping a modern physician profile that combines strong clinical expertise with advanced communication skills and the ability to provide psycho-emotional support to patients.
The Department of Emergency Medicine will continue to expand its educational outreach, supporting physicians in their professional development and contributing to the improvement of healthcare quality in Ukraine.
