On October 4, educational event was held, organized by the department of cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine . Traditionally, the department’s Saturday meetings bring together a wide audience of physicians — cardiologists, internists, and family doctors — who strive to stay up to date with the latest clinical guidelines and practical aspects of cardiovascular disease management.
The event was opened by Professor Maryna Dolzhenko, head of the department of cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine. In her opening remarks, Professor Maryna Dolzhenko emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and multidisciplinary collaboration among specialists to improve the quality of cardiac care in Ukraine.
The first presentation was delivered by Professor Oleh Sychov, head of the department of clinical arrhythmology and electrophysiology at the Strazhesko national institute of cardiology, clinical and regenerative medicine. His talk, “Choosing a beta-blocker for patients with atrial fibrillation,” explored modern criteria for drug selection, efficacy and safety considerations, and the role of beta-blockers in rate control and the prevention of AF-related complications. A lively discussion followed the presentation.
The next topic, “Back pain: challenges of differential diagnosis,” was presented by Professor Anton Volosovets, head of the department of emergency medicine at the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine. He highlighted the importance of accurate differentiation among vertebral, muscular, neurological, and cardiac causes of back pain — a common challenge in clinical practice. Participants appreciated the practical value of the presented clinical cases and diagnostic algorithms.
The event concluded with a lecture by Professor Maryna Dolzhenko on “Hypertension management: highlights from the 2025 AHA/ACC Guidelines.” The talk reviewed key updates in the new American recommendations, emphasizing risk stratification, target blood pressure levels, modern combination therapy approaches, and the management of patients with comorbidities
