On July 5, the department of cardiology at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine held a cardiology workshop. The event was attended by family doctors, therapists, and cardiologists, endocrinologists, and nephrologists.

 The meeting aimed to promote modern guidelines and address the most common controversial issues in the clinical practice of managing  patients with arterial hypertension.

The meeting was opened by Oleksandr Tukharynov, head of the National Initiative Group for Public Health Improvement through the normalization of sodium and potassium intake, with a presentation titled: “Non-Pharmacological Treatment of Hypertension.” The speaker emphasized the importance of optimizing sodium and potassium intake as a key factor in reducing cardiovascular risk. He presented epidemiological data, successful international public health strategies, and outlined approaches for adapting similar interventions in the Ukrainian context.

The second part of the event focused on pharmacological treatment. Аssistant at  the cardiology department at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine Tetiana Simahina  and head of the cardiology department at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, MD, professor Maryna Dolzhenko discussed the clinical management of a young patient with resistant hypertension and familial hypercholesterolemia. The lecturers reviewed the step-by-step selection of antihypertensive therapy, justified the rationale for combination treatment in accordance with ESC/ESH guidelines, and described therapeutic strategies for managing concomitant dyslipidemia, including the potential use of PCSK9 inhibitors in high-risk young patients.

After each presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with the speakers.
