A Center for Excellence in Modern Medical Education and Science 

Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine (SNHUU) is a leading institution for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and a contemporary scientific hub. The university is dedicated to the training, retraining, and professional development of healthcare specialists, as well as nurturing the next generation of scientific and academic professionals. At every stage of its history, the university's community has made significant professional contributions to Ukrainian medicine, ensuring high-quality education, implementing advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, and conducting vital scientific research to protect and improve the health of the Ukrainian population. 

Academic and Scientific Leadership

The university boasts a highly qualified faculty, including 224 Doctors of Sciences and 328 Candidates of Sciences (PhDs). The academic staff also includes 194 professors and 214 associate professors. Among its esteemed faculty are 8 full members and 12 corresponding members of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

On September 28, 2023, Professor Vyacheslav V. Kaminskyi, a full member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, was elected Rector of the university. 

Educational Structure and Training

The university's diverse student body includes undergraduates, medical interns, residents, doctoral students, and postgraduate trainees from Ukraine and abroad.

The 61 departments are organised into the following major academic units:

- Educational and Scientific Institute of Professional Excellence

- Educational and Scientific Institute of Health Management

- Educational and Scientific Institute of Innovative Medical and Educational Technologies named after Andriy Tkachenko

- Faculty of Medicine

Training is conducted in line with international best practices, utilising modern equipment, instruments, and simulators to ensure maximum safety and effectiveness. Students and trainees hone their practical skills at the Andriy Tkachenko Simulation Methods Training Centre. The university's departments and clinical facilities provide all necessary conditions for quality education at the Master's, educational-scientific, and scientific levels.

Annually, the university develops and updates over 100 curricula and thematic improvement courses. It also publishes more than 60 educational and methodological titles each year. The scale of its educational activities is significant, with approximately 1,500 courses delivered annually, training 2,500 interns and 23,000 doctors and pharmacists. Modern educational formats, including webinars, e-textbooks, and distance learning technologies, are actively used. The university's academic and laboratory facilities are housed in buildings with a total area of about 8,000 square meters. 

Clinical Work and Patient Care

Providing medical care is a cornerstone of the university's mission. Despite the significant challenges presented by the state of war since 2022, the academic and teaching staff have remained steadfast in their professional duties. 

In 2024 alone, the university's staff provided a substantial volume of medical assistance:

- 96,941 patients treated, with over 12,467 as inpatients and 84,474 in outpatient settings.

- 143,114 medical consultations were conducted. 

Patients often present with complex diagnostic cases, severe illnesses, and complicated conditions requiring high-level surgical interventions. This vital work is carried out across 247 clinical bases in healthcare institutions throughout Kyiv and 12 other administrative regions of Ukraine. Medical and diagnostic services are also provided by two of the university's structural units: the Dental Practical and Educational-Medical Centre and the Clinic of Reproductive Technologies. 

Research and Publications

The university's research output is extensive. Over the last two decades, faculty members have produced over 500 monographs, 130 textbooks, 600 manuals, and 640 patents. In the past 35 years, university scientists have received over 560 author certificates for inventions, some of which have been patented in the USA, Italy, and other countries.

The university is a co-founder of 21 scientific and practical journals. Six of these are indexed in the international Scopus database: “Reproductive Health of Women”; “Modern Paediatrics. Ukraine”; “Surgery of Childhood (Ukraine)”; “Ophthalmology Eastern Europe”; “Ukrainian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery”; and “Family Medicine. European practice”. The university also provides scientific support for journals such as “Diagnostics and Treatment of Maxillofacial Pathology”, “Medicines of Ukraine”, and “The Art of Treatment”. 

International Collaboration and Recognition

SNHUU is a member of the Magna Charta Universitatum and the European Academy of Natural Sciences and is listed in the catalogue of the UK National Information Centre for recognition of qualifications (UK ENIC).

The university is continuously expanding its international cooperation and partners with over 40 institutions and organizations in science, education, and medicine.

Professor Theodor Hellbrügge (Germany) and Professor Albert Schinzel (Switzerland) have been named Honorary Doctors. Honorary Professors include Alternative Nobel Prize laureate George Vithoulkas (Greece), Professor Hubertus von Voss (Germany), Professor Ctibor Weiss (Austria), Trevor Gibbs (UK), and Maciej Smietanski (Poland), Professor Robert Rejdak (Poland) and Filya Zhebrovska (Ukraine), Head of the Zhebrivskyi Family Charitable Foundation and a member of the university's Supervisory Board.
